Can you use Quartz outdoors?

We strongly advise against using Quartz outdoors as it is susceptible to damage from both heat and sunlight. Ultraviolet radiation can cause quartz to fade or discolour over time, especially darker colours and excessive heat can cause Quartz to become brittle and crack.

A suitable alternative would be Natural stone like Granite, Marble or Quartzite or Porcelain like Dekton, Marazzi or Caesarstone Porcelain.

Benefits of using Natural Stones outdoors

  • Durability: One of the biggest benefits is its enduring strength. They resist cracking, chipping, and wear and tear much better than other materials like wood or concrete.
  • Weather Resistance: Natural stone can handle whatever Mother Nature throws at it. It tolerates rain, snow, frost, and heat exceptionally well. Unlike some materials that crack under extreme temperature changes, stone weathers these fluctuations without much trouble.
  • Low Maintenance: Natural stone is surprisingly easy to care for. Regular sweeping and occasional cleaning with a hose is usually all that’s required. Unlike wood which needs staining or sealing, stone requires minimal upkeep to maintain its beauty.
  • Aesthetics: Natural stone brings a timeless elegance and beauty to any outdoor space.

Benefits of using Porcelain outdoors

  • Durability and Strength: Porcelain is incredibly tough, even exceeding the strength of some natural stones. It’s fired at high temperatures, making it resistant to scratches, chips, and cracks better than materials like concrete or wood.
  • Weather Resistance: Similar to natural stone, porcelain excels in various weather conditions. Its low water absorption rate makes it frost-proof and prevents cracking during freeze-thaw cycles. The dense composition also ensures resistance to harsh sunlight, preventing fading or discolouration.
  • Low Maintenance: The non-porous surface resists stains and dirt, making cleaning effortless.
  • Fire Resistance: For added peace of mind, porcelain boasts excellent fire resistance. This can be a crucial factor for areas with BBQs, grills, or open flames.
