Do I need to seal my Quartz Worktops?
Do I need to seal my Quartz Worktops?
No, but it is considered good practice to seal Granite and Marble Worktops.
Quartz Worktops are man-made, an engineered stone. As such they are non-porous, meaning liquids can’t seep in and cause stains. This is a major advantage of quartz over natural stone countertops like granite or marble, which typically require sealing to prevent staining.
Although Quartz is stain-resistant, it is not stain-proof. If you do incur a stubborn stain, you can use a small amount of CIF or The Pink Stuff paste to remove the stains.
Here’s why sealing isn’t necessary for quartz countertops:
- Non-porous: Quartz countertops are manufactured with a combination of resin and quartz crystals and minerals that creates a non-absorbent surface.
- Stain resistant: Because they are non-porous, quartz countertops are highly resistant to staining from common household liquids like wine, coffee, or juice.
- Manufacturer guarantees: Many quartz countertop manufacturers guarantee their products against staining or absorbing liquids, further emphasizing that sealing is not required.
Porcelain/ Ceramic Worktops also do not require sealing. Again, a man-made product which is stain-proof! Explore our range of Porcelain Products here.
If you have a Granite or Marble Worktop, we advise that you seal your worktop once a quarter. A popular sealant is Sealer Stain Stop Plus.
